Greetings to Beijing Review on the Occasion of Its 60th Anniversary
Congratulations to Beijing Review on its 60 years of service in informing the English-language public (and others) on developments in the People’s Republic of China. It is always a pleasant surprise when the weekly copy of the magazine arrives in my mailbox. Although I now follow events in China quite closely, the Beijing Review articles always provide a great deal of enlightenment and depth on subjects that have already captured my attention through the media, or subjects of which I was totally unaware until a Beijing Review article brought them to my attention. But even as a cub reporter many years ago during the 1970s, when my attention was not so much on China, but on Europe or on the then Soviet Union, I would always refer to Beijing Review to keep somewhat abreast of what was happening in China. And, of course, once upon a time, Beijing Review was the ONLY source for competent news from China in a Western media atmosphere that was then totally dominated by the McCarthyite anti-China lobby. You have done yeoman’s service for your nation and the world, and I’m looking forward to many more years of reading your wonderful articles.
